The Music Workshops in Schools initiative is designed to introduce students to a diverse range of Turkish Australian musical genres and instruments. By conducting workshops in both the Southern and Northern suburbs, this program aims to enhance students' musical skills and foster a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity and the rich musical traditions of Turkey and Australia. The workshops will provide students with hands-on experiences, allowing them to explore the unique sounds and techniques of various instruments while promoting cross-cultural understanding.

10 Culture & 10 Voices Project

The "10 Culture & 10 Voices" project is a cultural initiative designed to celebrate and promote cultural diversity through the powerful mediums of music and storytelling. The project brings together ten representatives from different cultural backgrounds, each sharing their unique stories, songs, and experiences. This initiative not only showcases the richness of cultural heritage but also fosters mutual understanding and respect among diverse communities.

  • The selection of participants for the "10 Culture & 10 Voices" project will be based on the following criteria:

    • Cultural Representation: Participants must represent distinct cultural backgrounds, ensuring a diverse and inclusive range of voices and experiences.

    • Artistic Merit: Individuals should demonstrate a strong ability in storytelling or music, with a portfolio or examples of their work that reflect their cultural heritage.

    • Commitment to Cultural Exchange: Applicants should exhibit a genuine interest in sharing their culture and learning from others, contributing to the project’s goal of fostering cultural understanding.

    • Inclusivity: Special consideration will be given to individuals from migrant backgrounds and refugees, supporting their integration into the broader community and highlighting their unique cultural contributions.

Music Connect for Underprivileged Talented Young People

The Music Connect program is designed to identify and nurture underprivileged young individuals with exceptional musical talent, offering them the opportunity to develop their skills and achieve their potential in a supportive environment. This program aims to bridge cultural gaps and promote inclusivity by focusing on youth from diverse and often marginalized communities, including those from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

    • Cultural Integration: Provide a platform for young, talented musicians, particularly from migrant and refugee backgrounds, to express their cultural heritage and blend it with Australian musical traditions, promoting cultural exchange and understanding.

    • Skill Development: Offer high-quality training and mentorship to refine musical abilities, performance skills, and stage presence.

    • Community Engagement: Foster a sense of belonging and integration within the broader community through public performances and collaborative projects.

    • Career Advancement: Equip participants with the necessary skills and connections to pursue careers in the music industry.

  • Participants will be selected based on the following criteria:

    • Age Range: Young individuals aged 12 to 25, with special emphasis on those from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

    • Financial Need: Preference will be given to those from underprivileged backgrounds who may not have access to traditional music education due to financial constraints.

Utilizing discarded materials

The Utilizing Discarded Materials project is an innovative initiative that combines environmental conservation with creative expression. The project involves crafting musical instruments and artworks using discarded materials, transforming waste into art. By raising awareness about sustainability, this program encourages participants to think critically about waste reduction and the importance of recycling while exploring their creativity through hands-on activities.

  • The materials used in this project will be carefully selected based on the following criteria:

    • Sustainability: All materials must be discarded items that would otherwise contribute to waste. This includes items such as old furniture, plastic bottles, metal scraps, cardboard, and other reusable materials.

    • Safety: Only materials that are safe for participants to handle will be used. Any sharp or hazardous items will be avoided or properly modified to ensure a safe crafting environment.

    • Creative Potential: Materials that offer a range of creative possibilities will be prioritized. This includes items that can be easily manipulated, painted, or assembled into musical instruments or artworks.

Mentorship Programs - Providing Training in Cultural Forms

ATMP offers mentorship programs for emerging artists, supporting their development in music and the arts, while promoting the importance of cultural diversity. ATMP’s mentorship programs for emerging artists contribute to cultural diversity and artistic development.

Program Description: Eastern-Western Music and Performing Arts Community Engagement Workshops aim to inspire and educate community members, with a focus on Turkish and Western cultural elements, through interactive and collaborative sessions centred around various aspects of music, dance, theatre, and related arts.

  • The target audience for our mentorship programs is emerging musicians, and our goal is to engage 100 participants annually.

  • Each year, we plan to conduct 8 workshops as part of our mentorship activities.

  • The mentorship programs will be conducted in Melbourne and regional areas, including cultural hubs, to engage musicians from suburban and rural areas. Partner institutions, music academies, and cultural centers equipped with facilities for mentorship activities, workshops, and performances will be utilized.

    • One-on-One Sessions: Mentors will provide personalized guidance, feedback, and career advice to individual mentees.

    • Group Workshops: Interactive workshops will focus on specific musical topics, techniques, and genres for collaborative learning and idea exchange.

    • Masterclasses: Renowned artists will conduct masterclasses, sharing expertise and experiences with participants.

    • Collaborative Rehearsals: Mentees will collaborate with mentors and peers in rehearsals, ensemble performances, and recording sessions.

  • The mentorship programs will cover Western and Eastern musical techniques, composition, arrangement, performance skills, stage presence and networking based on participants’ interests.

  • The duration and intensity of mentorship programs may vary, spanning weeks or months as workshops or residencies to accommodate mentors’ and mentees’ availability.

  • Our mentorship programs aim to empower emerging musicians with knowledge, skills, mentorship, and networking opportunities vital for navigating the music industry and thriving as professional musicians.
